Day 29

My name is Christine Xiao, and this is my 6th year at Upward Bound Study Center (UBSC). I currently hold the position as a program coordinator at UBSC which wasn’t my first position in 2014. I had first started from being a student to volunteering as a snack storekeeper, volunteering as a teacher assistant, a paid intern, and I’m now a program coordinator.
All these experiences have one thing in common, understanding hardship as a chinese immigrant from our former and current students. Many of our students didn’t voluntarily come to the United States, they are brought by their parents and have to leave their friends and come to the US, a place without their mother language and full of strange culture and environment.. As a part of UBSC, I would like to say, I am glad that these students found us and allow us to help them, not just with their English, but also sharing their issues as a Chinese immigrant from both school and
family. With their trust, I would say I am thankful that I am part of UBSC and would like to thank those who help and support our study center.

Hi my name is Alan. I started to join Upward Bound Study Center in 2008 by teaching adult English class. In the second semester, I was invited to teach the adult computer class. Due to limited resources, the center could not afford enough computer for the students. Amazingly with God’s blessings, Upward Bound Study Center received a donation of more than 10 laptop computers so the capacity of the computer class could increase to 20 and more. At that moment I truly experienced God’s provision!
I am so glad to witness how the students have built friendships. From not acquainted at all to true friends, supporting one another. Trust has been strongly built as time goes by. Our last lesson was a potluck and sharing time. I was so touched to see that they have gradually accepted praying before a meal.
I am very grateful for those students who have received Christ and joined the church. Thank God for giving me the opportunity to participate in the ministry and witness His wondrous acts!
Without the generous gift of that donor, the computer class would not have been made possible. Therefore, I want to give my heartfelt thanks to whoever has served in this ministry. Your contribution in any form has helped and benefited many more students in need.
